Zoning Ordinances

The Windspire will fit comfortably under the 35 foot maximum height restrictions of most residential zones and is virtually silent, so in many areas a simple building permit will be all you need.

If local wind ordinances exist in your area, remember that the ordinances were typically written with reference to propeller-style wind turbines. The Windspire's vertical axis design, featuring smaller size and lower height, is significantly different and will be feasible in more locations.

Site Location

Finding a good location on your property by responding to prevailing wind directions (if any), and ensuring the most clean, unobstructed access to the wind will help Windspire work most efficiently.

The best areas are where Windspires can be located at least 100' from any major obstacle, but this distance can be as close as 30' depending on the prevailing wind.

Building Integration

Most steel and concrete framed commercial builldings are adequately built to handle the loads from a Windspire.

Wind flow over and around buildings is very different from that in an open field, and there are some very specific areas where the wind is likely to be strong, but many where the wind is likely to be far below average wind speeds for that area.

Windspire also has built-in isolators that minimizes any vibration.
